About Me

I’m Tom and I’m a UK based travel blogger, working full-time whilst exploring the world, one place at a time.

I grew up in Manchester in a working-class household, and prior to me finishing university, the only travelling I’d ever done was to various Greek islands to consume copious amounts of watered down booze and get a lovely sunburn. Imagine an inebriated Dr. Zoidberg “whooping” up and down the Kavos strip, that pretty much sums up my travel experience at that time.

Towards the end of university in 2014, people around me slowly began venturing away from such trips to slightly more cultured ones. Swapping the booze cruises for temples and beach parties in South East Asia. Slowly but surely this inspired me to go out and do something similar on my own. Well that and watching Karl Pilkington’s An Idiot Abroad.

Decisions, decisions…

I was torn between travelling and cracking on with finding a career. So, I did the sensible thing, I kicked on with finding a career, signing up for a 4-week work experience internship…

in Accra, Ghana.

4 incredible and mind-blowing weeks. My first solo adventure, filled with amazing waterfalls, feeding monkeys by hand, a traditional Ghanaian wedding, great food, my first 9-5 type job… as well as catching Cholera, sleeping rough in an airport, getting dragged out of a car by armed guards and getting pulled into interview rooms at airports.

Understandably, I became hooked on travelling.

A new passion

I did carry on with pursuing my 9-5 career (in data analytics) and I’ve been squeezing every bit of adventure I can out of my annual leave ever since, visiting more than 40 countries with a shoestring budget at times.

Every trip I go on, I aim to get the most out of every minute, I love hiking and summiting mountains, going to football games and getting stuck into the local food and culture.

I’ve been incredibly blessed to go to all the places I’ve been, and do all the things I’ve done over the last ten years (and hopefully many more to come!) and wanted to start this blog to share my experiences, what I’ve learned and hopefully help others get out there and see the world.
